Byens Skole Illustration and wayfinding

A local private school in Valby, Copenhagen based in an old factory -so not your typical school and extremely difficult to find your way around the different buildings

The task was to create an overview map of the school and to create way finding and signage which was in line with their visual identity but expanded by the use of colours for younger kids to use colours as navigation instead of words (as some of the younger ones -can’t read yet).

The illustration was done in an isometric style due to the complexity of the buildings, an isometric style seems like a logic choice to create a good overview of the different buildings as they are interlinked – connected and with add-on buildings. The illustration was also executed in a simple style without too many effects like drop shadows, blur etc. to keep it clean and in an iconic style without loosing the details.

The signage made with clear colour coding to guide and help smaller students who are not that skilled in reading (yet)

The idea is to have the signage printed on transparent foil in A4 size so it is an inexpensive solution which can be placed on exisiting material, and can be easily replaced if there is a name change for a certain area.

Mock-up examples made in Adobe Photoshop on how it could look on the existing surfaces.
